One Darling Harbour is an 18 storey residential apartment building adjacent to the IBIS hotel.

Our contribution to this project comprised three stages as follows:

Stage 1: Refresh & integrate the exterior.

Our clients were seeking a modern look that would complement the building’s heritage-listed neighbours and the Sydney Harbour foreshore environment.

Originally entirely beige, the new colour scheme was inspired by the granites and marbles that clad the facade, thus drawing the old into the new.

The vertical curvilinear roof shared with the IBIS Hotel-was a feature that really called for a lift. We used a silver metallic paint to mimic Alucobond paneling and integrate it with other anodised aluminium elements.

Colour blocking was used to highlight architectural form and to picture frame balconies, thus providing a more contemporary feel.

Stage 2: Enliven & enrich the interior.

A re-design of interior lobbies and corridors for all 16 levels, focused on warmth and enriching layers.

The custom-designed carpet mixes blacks and caramels to provide a modern yet timeless design.

Warm lemon-yellow washes walls and ceilings with soft cosiness. Painting ceilings and walls the same colour helps to create expansiveness.

Black apartment doors create sophisticated focal points that harmonise with existing marble lift surrounds, and carpet.

Stage 3: Uplift 18th floor swimming pool terrace.

Walls surfaces were clad to a 2600mm height with a white cement finish Italian porcelain tile. The sense of scale achieved by the incorporation of whole panels helps to exaggerate the perspective.

The rectified tiles provide a seamless,  symmetrical look, and the subtle texture of the panels adds a mineral like quality to the space.

Materiality including tactile black granite porcelain pavers for pool & spa copings, fossil grey quartz porcelain pavers in a 600 x 600 format for pool surrounds and the low height atrium wall. Glass mosaic waterline tiles colour-matched flawlessly to the spa epoxy coating.

The finished design has been welcomed by the tenants with enthusiasm.
